Finally, last May 31 (Friday), I made the "BIG JUMP" by resigning from the company that I've been working with for the past 20 months here in Cebu. I decided, the only way to realize my dream is to wake up. Prior to this job, in 2005, I also gave up an administrative / managerial position with a Media Network to start working on re-aligning my career path where it's supposed to be heading.
Being a family man, it is not easy for me to let go of the security blanket that a regular paycheck provides. It is a sacrifice and a risk that I have to take for something that I believe will even be way much bigger...something that I am most passionate about...and something that will make me grow further as a professional - and as an artist.
Photography has always been a passion of mine since my days as a student. The camera has never ceased to amaze and challenge me to come up with images that I would love to share to the world. Four months ago, I revived this passion with renewed fervor. Now, I am taking it to a new level from being an amateur/hobbyist...to professional.
Yesteday (June 10), I just covered my first project documenting a sports event - a rugby match between a visiting team known as the Hongkong Rhinos versus our very own Cebu Dragons. I don't have yet the big, white lenses required for such a gig, but I think I managed to compensate and I'm able to come up with exciting pictures depicting decisive moments during the game.
More updates in the next few days.
I'm in the zone!!!

LONELY TREE
This picture is the first image that I posted in Flickr that immediately received numerous praises from a lot of people right after upload. As a matter of fact, this photo was taken in 2004 and has already been used as a "jazzed-up" design composite for NCCA's WebSining graphics design contest on that same year.
I only uploaded this on Flickr yesterday (April 14, 2007) and it became an instant hit. Cosidering that this image is only snapped-up by a 2-megapixel point and shoot camera, i think its surreal appeal and the emotion that it evoked from people are the main factors why people took notice.
Frankly, looking at this image still makes me feel sad and angry at the same time. The price that nature has to pay in the name of "development".

First IPC (istorya.net photo club) Photography Workshop
Below are some of the pictures I took during our 1st PhotoShoot for the newly organized Istorya.net Photo Club (IPC), with which I am one of the proud founding members. The club is composed of forumers from the very vibrant Cebu online forum community "Istorya.Net", hence the name of the club. All members are bound by their common passion for photography.
